Agent’s ‘disgusting’ renter comments spark fury

Another real estate agent has found herself in hot water after being accused of presenting renters as “second-class citizens” in a video promoting a new golf course housing estate in Gympie.

In a now-deleted TikTok video, realtor Karen Robinson was seen promoting land in Royal Pines Estate as highlighted that the key selling point was the lack of rentals.

“Tell me now, would you prefer to be living next door to an owner occupier, or a street full of rentals?” she said.

“There are not many estates in Gympie — actually I did a drive around today, and there was none that wasn’t filled to the brim with rental properties.

“I know if I’m spending between five hundred thousand to a million dollars on my house and land package, the last that I wanna do is be in a whole street full of renters.”

Ms Robinson went on to say that after putting in the effort to make her theoretical home the way she wants it, she would “want to be around like-minded people”.

The video was first posted on the Property Shop Australia’s TikTok page on Wednesday but disappeared by Friday morning.

But the video was up long enough to turn into a dumpster fire on social media, with many blasting Ms Robinson’s comments.

“This woman thinks she is a class above everyone. Give me a renter over a shallow person any day!” one person wrote on the Gympie Times’s Facebook post.

“She should not be judging anyone,” another wrote.

Others pointed out that the land she was promoting aren’t as prestigious as she made it out to be as they were across from the local dump.

“Isn’t this the estate near the dump and cemetery? Absolute luxury at it’s finest!” one person pointed out.

“Prestigious [laughing emoji] across from the dump! Give it up love!” another wrote.

News.com.au has reached out to Ms Robinson for comment.

Ms Robinson is the owner and director of Hampton Home Builders, which had its licence suspended since last month over failing to meet the QBCC financial requirements.

Distrust in real estate agents

According to the latest Ethcis Index report by the Governance Institute of Australia, real estate agents are seen as the least trusted profession in Australia.

This statistic follows after multiple scandals involving real estate agents have come out in recent months.

A Perth real estate agent named Bronwyn Pollitt has been suspended for eight months after emails to tenants surfaced in which she made racist remarks about Indian immigration and India’s standard of living.

In emails sent to two former tenants regarding their final inspection, Pollitt wrote that Australian living standards, expectations and quality of life were vastly different to the “overcrowded, overpopulated, dirty squaller [sic] of many other countries including India.”

“Hopefully the massive influx of Indian people will not turn our beautiful country into the fifth that is India,” she said.
